Royal Van Zanten Publishes 2024 ESG Report
Sustainable flowers and varieties play a key role in sector sustainability
Royal Van Zanten has published its third Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) report, focusing on varieties that align with a sustainable future. The report highlights varieties that are grown and transported using minimal energy and crop protection, and that stay beautiful for a long time. For environmentally conscious growers, florists, and consumers, there are increasing options for responsible bouquets and sustainable gardens.
In the 2024 ESG report, Royal Van Zanten highlights the sustainable characteristics of her innovative flower Astronova®, the popular Charmelia®, and the versatile Statice, with attention also given to growers’ sustainability efforts.
Royal Van Zanten also aims to offer more varieties across its portfolio, including many potted plant varieties, that can be developed, grown, and transported sustainably. A growing share of the portfolio meets the company’s ambitious sustainability goals. In a dedicated chapter titled ‘Breeding for Sustainability’, the report details goals and activities to further enhance the sustainability of the overall product assortment.
“Sustainable flowers and varieties are key to reducing the environmental impact of the horticultural industry,” says Joost Kos, Director Breeding & Development.
In addition to the focus on varieties and breeding, the new ESG report also covers the company’s commitment to its employees and its international focus on social sustainability.
CSRD
In the previous edition of the report, Royal Van Zanten announced its preparations for the CSRD reporting requirements. Despite recent changes, the company remains committed to reporting, evaluating, and improving.
“The drive to become more sustainable is strongly felt throughout our team. We want to progress, improve, and continue to share our passion through our products—without negatively impacting future generations,” says CEO Maarten Goos.
