MAUS VAN STAAVEREN
In 1929, 18-year-old Maus (Maurice) van Staaveren leaves his parents’ dairy farm and moves to Aalsmeer. He clearly has more pleasure in cultivating flowers and plants. Entrepreneurship is in Maus’s blood, and he becomes a cultivator of dahlias, lilies, chrysanthemums, carnations, freesias and other flowers. In 1935, he builds his first greenhouse where his love for his flowers proves to be very strong. He sometimes even sleeps in the greenhouse to protect his cuttings from theft.
